Wendy Miller lives in a red saltbox in Miamisburg, Ohio, with her husband and their "furry kids" (dogs!). They also own a historic home in Attica, Indiana, near to where Wendy grew up. Some day Wendy hopes to move back home to Indiana full time, to be near family and friends.
Wendy was interested in art from an early age, and now as an adult, Wendy's life is all about her art. Her background is in porcelain and polymer clay. She owned a studio and taught porcelain for several years in Centerville, Ohio, before venturing into the fiber art of rug hooking.
She learned the basics of how to rug hook in 1999. Quickly picking up the technique of rug hooking, she soon turned to drawing and hooking her own designs into rugs for her home. Through the encouragement of friends and fellow rug hookers, Wendy started selling her rug designs as patterns for other rug hookers to hook in 2001, under the business name of The Red Saltbox.
Wendy has hooking bees regularly at her studio in the carriage house, which sits right next to their saltbox home. She also hooks with other local rug hooking groups in the area. Wendy travels occasionally to teach seminars specializing in hooking in wide cuts, and teaching students how to give their rugs the "aged" appearance. But she much prefers to have small seminars at her studio, where students receive more intimate instruction one-on-one.
Wendy is an accomplished rug hooker, and a member of ATHA. Awards and recognition:
